Finally getting to grips with most apsects of Notes - still, one tries. anyway one thing i’ve not yet had to do is perform restores…
I’ve been presented with a user who has informed that he has “lost” some emails he had moved to a folder. Now, the first thing I did was go into Notes admin and open his mail file. In his mailbox I opened up the folder that was meant to be empty - but all the documents were there. Does this mean i still have to do a restore or is it simply a case of getting the user to replicate and they will re-appear.
If it is a restore, how do i do one? I’ve heard that it’s a complex process of restoring the docs to a new location and then creating a new file and copying the documents across. Surely it can;t be that involved? Can it?
If the e-mails are there on the server replica of the user’s mail file then a restore is not necessary. However, if the user replicates it may delete the docs from the server replica IF the user deleted them (whether by accident or intentionally) from his local replica. What I would do is to have the user delete his local replica and pull a new replica from the server. This could throw things off a bit if he has created any new e-mails or calendar entries since his last replication. Another option would be to create a tmp mail file, copy the docs from the folder into the tmp mail file, let the user replicate and see what happens. If the e-mails from the folder disappear then just copy and paste them back from the tmp mail file.
