Hello.Could someone tell me what effect the DNS Blacklist query on server performance? I am thinking about using this feature and querying against 3 blacklists. Will these queries have a significant impact on server performance?

We run querys with 5 blacklists. We have not had any performance issues and it filters @95% of spam. We are not a large office (@130 users)

…you shouldn’t worry about server performance, but about network issues. If you query against multiple blacklists, be sure to have enough bandwith, or you may accidentally see some TPCIP timeout issues. The chances of this happening aren’t that big, but you should be aware of it nonetheless, imho.

worst case scenario is a 2 second delay per blacklist lookup for the first time an ip address is checked but after that they’re in the cache so it sort of balances out.
i’ve used about 7 or 8 without any noticeable difference but then again we have dedicated mail servers to process internet mail, so it’s not like we would notice or be bothered by a couple of seconds extra transfer time anyway.

I have 18 blacklists, and it slows things down about 10-30 seconds a message. For our size ~150 it’s noticeable, but doesn’t cause user complaints which is most important.

we’re a very small company (25 users) running everything on one low-end server. We use 3 blacklists and it has no noticable influence on performance.
