Our router got stuck often. I tried several thing like changing notes.ini parametes but nothing worked.
Eventually I found out that our DNS (Windows 2000) was hanging our domino server. We changed the server for a linux and since then, the server never stuck again.
Anyway, I think you should contact Lotus Support.

Linux not a choice here. I have shut down the server, remove the old mail.box, let the server recreate a new one. but the problem is the same.

Problem
When a Lotus Domino server routes messages to Internet domains, you find that no messages route for some Internet domains. If you enter “show tasks” on the Domino server console, the Router task displays as “dispatching messages” for long periods of time. If you enable additional debugging (debugrouter = 3), the following DNS errors are logged by the Router task:
"res_send failure DNS resolver error
Unable to resolve destination domain
DNS is unavailable, message will be requeued"
This routing failure occurs for some but not all Internet domains.

In one particular instance, the errors occur when a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 is being used to provide DNS services. Microsoft has identified issues in which a Domain Name System (DNS) server that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 can intermittently stop responding to client requests for certain host names or DNS queries to some domains might not be resolved successfully.

During troubleshooting, if you execute an nslookup to the domains in question some cases are successful but others time out. Neither updating the nameserver registry key (Domino on Windows 2000) nor attempting to use NOTES.INI parameter DNSServer resolves the issue.

We have this same problem… the router appears to be asleep “displatching messages”… then it comes to life spuratically.
When we do large emails, the messages can sit in the queue for a long time… kinda sucks

When you say stuck, do you mean that it sticks when trying to send email? We had that happen once and we solved it by making a copy of the mail.box, deleting it off of the server and rebooting the server. When the server comes back up, if the mail.box does not exist, it will create it. We then pasted the emails from the backup one at a time till we narrowed down what email was crashing it. I hope this helps, but you really didn’t give a detailed email about your problem.
