Discussion Template 8.51

I have two discussion databases that have been around since 6.5. We do not use them much.

I upgraded my Domino Server to 8.5.1 two weeks ago. All seem well.

but I notice in these two discussion database a error pops up when I try to open a document in the db.

“Cannot Locate Form: Document”

I figured that maybe the 8.51 Discussion template was different.

So I replaced the design. Yet I still get the error when opening any document in the db.

“Cannot Locate Form: Document”

I did a little testing and found out.

That all the original documents create under the old template have a “Form” field named “Document”

I then create a new document in the same database that has the 8.51 Discussion template.

The new document has a “Form” field named “Main Topic”

I know why the error is happening but how do I correct the old documents to work with the new Template and fix the document open error?

suggestions as to why the db has different names for the same field in the old and new templates?

How do I fix the old documents?

I have upgrade my servers regularly. I’ve migrated from 6.5 7.0, 8.0, 8.5.

so I didn’t jump from 6.5 to 8.5.

Subject: Discussion template

I searched the Discussion templates all the way back to R4.6 and can’t find any form with the name (or alias) of “Document”. Any idea how your documents got that Form item on them? Was this an existing database (which did not originate from the Discussion template) which was upgraded with the Discussion template sometime after documents had been created?

Anyway, you can fix your database by editing the Main Topic form and adding “Document” as an alias. But leave MainTopic at the far right (so this is the name that is saved in the Form item on all future documents.

The form name should look like this: Main Topic | Document | MainTopic

I do not know why this one db has the document name in the form field. Maybe long ago it was build with a Team discussion db and I over wrote it at some point with standard Discussion.

I have made an internal note about this about the db for future template updates.
