I will be building a DR site which will have a large WAN connection. No one will be able to connect to the DR site unless production enviroment goes down and server_restricted=2 is changed to 0.
Main Question about Lotus Domino Cluster.
The Current production enviroment will be duplicated at DR site (1 to 1).
Should I just put each production server into its own cluster with the matching DR server.
or
Is it best to put the majority of the servers into one cluster ?
Example:
Production Mail 1 Server is identical as DR Mail 1 Server
Production Mail 2 Server is identical as DR Mail 2 Server
Production App Server is identical as DR App Server

I recommend creating multiple clusters rather than trying to lump all your servers into a single cluster. One reason to use multiple clusters is that there is a maximum number of Domino servers per cluster. I’m sure that 6 is the maximum number of Nodes for an R6 cluster, which I think is the same in R7. With that limitation you’ve maxed out your cluster configuration with just the 3 production servers you reference in your example.
Subject: Disaster Recovery Site - Domino Cluster Question
Ken,
Caveat: I’m a dev guy who has just been around for a while, not an admin.
But here’s my take. It seems to me that mail1 and mail2 are going to be largely mutually exclusive in terms of the mail files, right? So I would want to make clusterMail1 for mail1 and drmail1, and clusterMail2 for mail2 and drmail2. Ditto for application servers, etc.
Although it seems a nuisance to have multiple clusters, I just don’t see the value in making one big cluster when the data is so mutually exclusive between these servers. Typically, a big cluster is used when there is more overlap. So server1, server2, server3, and server4 all have a lot of db’s in common, and maybe some not in common. Then that’s a reasonable cluster. But I don’t think your situation is like this.
