Disable Full Text Highlighting

Executive Summary: Is it possible to enable or disable the &Highlight on URLs resulting from a full-text search?

Let me first start by explaining our issue…

We have one web server crashing intermittently. The NSD’s say it is crashing on URLs with a suffix of ?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,SOMETEXT where “SOMETEXT” equals anything… it could be numbers or alphanumeric. Obviously… the user does a full-text search then clicks on the link.

It crashes on urls from multiple databases with different designs… but they’re all full-text indexed.

Here is the reason for my post: IBM Support

I’m trying to work with IBM. They’re focusing on one specific database. So, I sent them the design for the database so they can replicate the crash (something we’ve never been able to do).

First, they wrote back and said that they couldn’t get the search to work. I pointed out that the database needed to be full-text indexed.

Next, they wondered what the black and gray boxes were next to the links. I had to explain that those were relevance scores based on the full-text search (remember… I’m talking to IBM support).

Now… they’re saying that they can’t get the search to return URL’s with the &Highlight parameter. Is this even an option to turn on or turn off? I am not an Administrator… I’ve searched the Admin help and found nothing. What could they be doing wrong?

If you have any clue on how to solve my server from crashing great. If you could help me tell IBM support what to do next that would be just as useful.

Thanks!

We have some very sharp people in Lotus Support. It’s possible your problem didn’t get assigned to one of them, however. It sounds to me like whoever has it is floundering a bit, and needs help from a more experienced support person. Suggest that they escalate the issue to the next level of support. Suggest it very strongly. If they don’t seem to want to, please email me at andre dot guirard at us.ibm.com with the details (names, etc).
