A user who has left the company is still receiving emails to her address. I have changed their internet address to xxxx-username@domain though test emails sent to username@domain are still going to the inbox.
The mail file still needs to be used by another user - I just need people sending to the old user to receive bouncebacks or something of that nature.

Deny messages intended for the following internet addresses:
Add your email address there.
Save and close
Now… Why are you reusing the mail box? Post what you want to do somewhere here are someone will probably tell you a better way of achieving your stated aim.

This is a function of your messaging configuration. The default setting for address lookup is “Fullname then Local Part - (default) The Router first searches the Domino Directory for a match for the full Internet address (localpart@domain.com). If no match is found, it searches the directory again, looking for a match for the local part of the address only.”
To get to this, open the admin client,confiuration tab, udner messaging, choose configurations. Edit the internet email gateway server. Go to Router/SMTP tab, Basics tab, “address lookup” field.
I also agree with the other poster, though, that if a person is no longer with the company, their person document should no longer exist.

When you delete a user the Admin process runs through a bunch of processes to remove the user from the system. But to delete the mail database it has to be approved in the admin4.nsf database, so if you do not approve the deletion, the mail database is not deleted.
