Backup Exec does cannot find or back up any NSF files and Symantic support now tells us that the reason is that notes.ini has Directory=C:\Domino\Data instead of C:\Domino\Data\Mail. That seems fishy to me because BE is also not backing up NSF files residing in C:\Domino\Data\Jobs.
That begs the question of the use of the Directory= parameter in notes.ini. Can I have more than one Directory= parameter? What is the use of that parameter? There is nothing about it in Administrator 8 Help.
Subject: leave the notes.ini
don’t change the ‘Directory’-Entry in the notes.ini.
Check the following (exit notes before):
- notes.ini Location
is your notes-ini in the data directory? if not put it there in
- Environment Variable
In Windows click ‘Start’-‘Run’ and type in ‘notes.ini’.
Do the notes.ini open or is there an error message (also check if the right one opens!)?
If it does not open goto the windows ‘control panel’, open ‘system’ goto the upper right tab (i got it in german must be something like ‘enhanced’) there you’ll find on the bottom the button ‘Environment Variables’. Click it and add to the ‘PATH’-Uservariable your notes-data-directory (I also have my program directory there)
- Registry-Setting
Open the registry. Normally under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Notes. If you haver only R8 installed, there must be no ‘6.0’ or ‘7.0’-Folder, but only a ‘8.0’.
Therein there must be a string called ‘NotesiniPath’ which must point to your notes.ini
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Lotus\Notes\
Check if there is a ‘DataPath’ pointing to your data-directory and a ‘Path’ pointing to the program directory. The same in the folder ‘8.0’.
After that your backup should find it.
Good luck
Subject: Directory parameter should point to data directory
You don’t want this pointing toward mail or any other subdirectory of data.
