Directory Assistance

I created a directory that is accessible to a limited number of people. I added it into da.nsf and all went fine. When someone goes to access it from the web, they open a new messages, select TO to list all of the directories, and if they are not authorized to have access to this particular directory, it is not shown in the list, if they do have access to this directory it appears in the list. Now when the same is done on the client, the directory will appear in the list no matter if they have access to it or not. If they attempt to access it, and they don’t have access, it denies them access. So everything works fine, except my boss wants the directory not to show in the list when people select “To” in creating a new message when on the client. In other words, exactly as it works on the web, if they have access to the directory it will appear in the list, if they do not have access to the directory, will not appear in the list. Is this possible, or am I missing something?

What is the default access to the Directory?

Subject: Directory Assistance

Hi Carl,

When you set up Directory Assistance on a server and point at some remote directory, it is the SERVER’S access level to the directory that matters, not the user’s.

If the user trys to open the directory directly from the Notes client, they of course won’t be able to do that, but they’ll be able to look up names and be able to see the db title of the directory.

If you truly want to hide the names of the directories from the users, what you should look into is creating an Extended Directory Catalog (EDC) that can aggregate the names from the directory you want secured + names from any other directories you want. You can create the EDC on the directory server, and point at the EDC using Directory Assistance.

Here’s a doc if you want to configure an EDC: http://www-12.lotus.com/ldd/doc/domino_notes/rnext/help6_admin.nsf/b3266a3c17f9bb7085256b870069c0a9/bd63d43f5c8a9e1f85256c1d003946b8?OpenDocument

Hope this works for you!
