Directory Assistance with Directory Catalog DBs

Hi everyone,

In our R5 environment we use Directory Assistance with documents for Directory Catalog databases. The Domino help file says “Do not create a Directory Assistance document for a Directory Catalog itself, only for the directories aggregated into the directory catalog.” but for some reason it works in R5. When the user addresses a message, he/she can see the Directory for every branch office in the company individually (ex.: BranchA, BranchB,…). Then the user opens the desired branch Directory and find the destination address.

This Directory Catalog DBs are sent by the branch offices and we do not have direct access to their Domino Directories

Now we are upgrading our local servers to R6.5 and this feature doesn’t work anymore in this version. Our branch offices are not moving to R6.5 and we need to maintain this feature. Any ideas?

One suggestion is to create a separate aggregate directory in each branch and give your Catalog DB server access to these aggregates for replication.

Then in your Catalog DB server, create properly settings to have in the Directory catalog DB all aggregate Directories consolidated.

Thanks for you reply.

We thought about that but since we don’t have full manager access to their Directories we need to start a complicated internal process to approve this company wide environment change. But, from what we’ve seen so far about this problem, I think we don’t have another choice.
