We have a large customer address book. I’d like to make that available to users via the address button in a new memo. So far I’ve got a directory assistance database setup and specified in the server config. I’ve got a document in the directory assistance database with a database link to the customer address book. When our server restarts I get “Directory Assistance could not access Directory DOMINO2/INTERNAL/CBS GlobalCRM.nsf, error: Unable to find path to server”. The customer address book is on another server. Is this an issue of replication, or am I missing another piece of the puzzle? Does the whole directory catalog thing apply in this situation? Thanks.

Hi Chad, =)
Directory Catalogs don’t have anything to do with your scenario. They’re completely separate from Directory Assistance.
About your server not being able to get at that other server’s directory… are the servers in different domains? The server with the DA needs to know about the other server before it can get to its directory.
Try opening the Primary Domino Directory (e.g., names.nsf) on the server with the DA database. Under the “Servers” view, open up the “Connections” sub-view and create a new connection for the remote server.
Post back and let us know if it works! =)

I say that both servers are on the same domain, but the mail server is “domino1/CBS” and the app server holding the CRM database is “domino2/Internal/CBS”. The difference between these two servers is heirarchy, not domains, right? Anyway, I opened names.nsf on domino1 and confirmed that it does have a connection document for domino2. Anywhere else I need to check?

Hmmm. Well if it is under a different hierarchical branch (i.e. under a different Domino certifier), then I don’t think that you should have problems. You possibly need to create a cross-certificate between the servers to let them use each other’s resources. That seems like it shouldn’t need to happen though.
Maybe there’s an administrator out there that can help??? I’m not one. =) I’m more of a Domino Directory guy.
Here’s a work-around, however. Get rid of the db link in the Directory Assistance document, and in the table put the DNS name of the server and the name of the directory you’re trying to get access too. See if that does the trick. Please post back and let us know. =)

Unfortunately, that’s how I’ve got it setup. In the Server name field, I have "Domino2/Internal/CBS. In the domino directory file name, I have “GlobalCRM.nsf”. I do have the entry enabled.
I’m not familiar with the cross-certificate between the servers. How do I tell if that’s setup correctly? Also, does the ACL on the directory assistance database play into this?
. . . . wait . . . scratch all that. It just started working. I modified the acl on the directory assistance database to give domino administrators manager access. Now it shows up when I press the address button, though I get some kind of “missing required view” error when I try to access it. Thanks so much for your help.

Can the server communicate with Domino2 where the CRM address book resides? You may need a connection doc.

Yes, we do have a connection doc setup and they can communicate with each other.
