Are there any functional differences between the behaviour of a Refresh Design and Replace Design?
Other than the obvious, the prompt to choose a template you get with Replace…

There definitely is a difference. The “refresh” would be used if you want to bring in changes that have been made to the template your database is using. For example, if you made changes to the template your mail file uses you would need to “refresh” to get the new changes.
Replace is used to change the template that your database uses. Using the mail example you may want to switch from the iNotes5 template to the iNotes6 template. I’ve also used this method if databases start behaving weirdly. I replace the design of the database with the design its already using and it will fix most design elements that are out of whack.

Thanks for your reply, though I already understood why you would use each one from the perspective you posted about.
My question really is, lets say you did a replace design, but choose the same template that would be applied via a Refresh design. Is there a functional difference in how the task is performed.
For example will one blow away some design elements that are not in the template where the other will leave them in the database. And additionally will a refresh actually pull the design elements back in, or does it merely check modified dates or some other flag and determine that it is not necessary (might not fix design element corruption in database)? Where I am assuming a replace design won’t care if there is an exact copy of that design element in the database, it will wipe it out and pull a new copy from the template.
These are the kinds of questions I was wondering if anyone had the answer to.
Subject: If Replace Design uses the same Template, it works exactly the same as Refresh Design.
It will only pull Modified design notes into your database.
