A copy of a Notes DB is a “snapshot” at a specific time. A replica stays synchronized with the original.

If you have Database A, and you make a new COPY called Database B. If a new document is added to A, it will not automatically show up in B. If a new document is added to B, it will not automatically show up in A.

If you have Database A, and you make a new REPLICA called Database B. If a new document is added to A, it will also show up in B after the two databases “replicate” and vice versa.

A New Copy has a different Replica ID and cannot be replicated with other copies of the same database.

Just to add.

The New Copy makes a copy of the database but this new database has no affiliation with the original. Meaning any changes to this database will have no bearing on the original. They can not replicate with each other.

The new replica, makes a copy of the database and these databases can be connected and replicated. If you have replication enabled, a change to a document on one database can be replicated to the second database and then you would have the same change in the document.
