Hi,
I am having problems with incorrect values appearing in a Dialog List field. If a user selects a value which is made up of multiple words, and then tries to select a different value from the field, the original value selected then appears in the list of choices, but is separated out into individual entries.
E.g if user selects the value Short Term Financing, then clicks the field again, they see the same list of values as before, but in addition the values Short then Term then Financing.
The field is a Dialog List, is not multi-value, and it’s contents are derived from a DBLookup. Refresh Fields on Keyword Change, Allow Synonyms and Refresh Choices on Refresh are all ticked on. I have turned these values on and off but it hasn’t changed anything.
I have tried forcing the DBLookup to perform the lookup each time but that hasn’t helped.
Any ideas?

What is the multi value seperator set as? Is SPACE checked. If it isn’t, look at what is selected (can be more than one) and see if this seperator is appearing in the original selection.

As per Robin’s reply, the field is not multi-value so there is no separator.
It is however performing a DBLookup on a field in an admin document. This is multi-value, and the separators are commas and semi colons. Wouldn’t have thought that would make a difference to the field doing the DBLookup.
Thanks

Have you tried the following:
-
Add a column to the view that you are looking up. Give it the value of the field you want to return.
-
Set that column to show multi values as sepearte entries.
-
Modify your lookup to retrieve the column values and not directly from the field.
I may be wrong here but, it is possible that if you are not using a view, the space in between is getting used as a sepeartor for multivalues.
If you are using a view currently then doing step 2 may resolve it.
Finally, if all that fails, change the Dialog List fireld to multi value, look at the sepeartors, deselect everything as a seperator and then go back and change the field to single value - a long shot but worth a try.

I’ve found that the simplest way to resolve this is the following steps:
-
Select the dialog list field
-
Change it to a checkbox field
-
Change it BACK to a dialog list field (Allow Multiple values will be checked…LEAVE IT ALONE)
-
Flip over to the “beanie” tab in properties
-
Under “Separate values when user enters…”, UNCHECK “comma”. That should force the field to “None” and uncheck the “Allow Multiple Values” check on the first page of properties.
That process resolved my issues. Apparently it does a reset of the multi-value flags on the field that must get stuck on multi- in certain instances.

Hi David,
I was facing the same problem with the Dialog list field and was stuck up on my programming.
After trying to fix the problem for a very long time , I came to find the answer in the forum and came across your response.
I tried it and guess what …IT REALLY WORKED !!!
Notes acts like crazy many times.

Running 7.0.2 and had this same problem. Solution works! Just love them stupid Notes tricks!

I too have this problem. It happens with single valued fields so the multi-value separator should not be relevant (and is disabled). It is not a new problem. In applications where it is important, I have to code extra validation to prevent one of the invalid “sub strings” from being chosen.

Thanks.
I think your idea is the only way. Check for those invalid substrings so the user can’t actually select them.
