After problems with threads not showing, unread marks incorrect and retaining sort order in folders not working I shut down my Notes 8.5.1 and deleted Cache.ndk, Workspace folder and Desktop8.ndk. Notes is on Windows 7.
After launching Notes Cache.ndk and new workspace folder is created but no desktop8.ndk is created.
I went to check it from another 8.5.1 installation on Windows XP - no Desktop8.ndk!
After checking a third installation on XP without the file I wonder : has the desktop8.ndk become obsolete with Notes 8.5.1 client?
Client works fine without the desktop8.ndk - the workspace is there with icons (though it says “size: 0 bytes”).
Subject: Compact creates the file…but can Notes do without the Desktop8.ndk?
After going into the workspace and seeing the file is 0 bytes I tried clicking “compact”. Notes then says in the proces bar : “Performing consistency check on desktop8.ndk”
“Completed consitency check on Desktop8.ndk”.
And Desktop8.ndk is created. Date stamp is the time of the consitency check. Is it supposed to be like this? I haven’t seen this in earlier versions of Notes.
As of Notes 8.5.1 the roaming user feature supports roaming of the workspace. If roaming is enabled the data from desktop8.ndk is migrated to the bookmarks,nsf database so that it can be replicated around, and desktop.ndk is no longer used.
Then it starts making sense. But when I open my workspace I will then actually be looking in the bookmark database. How does it fit in that opening Workspace and doing a compact creates the desktop8.ndk? Will the desktop8.ndk never be used allthough it is created?
