My designer client works OK, but when I try to load the notes client, once the splash screen disappears and the “window” for the application comes up, it just never fully appears and CPU pegs at 100%
I’ve tried using a Network location and a Island connection to eliminate server connection issues to no avail. Removed/reinstalled and repaired installation. Turned off virus scanning.
In fact I am running a server on the same box, but:
even WITHOUT the server launched, the client will not load.
and my issue seems reversed from the other post in that my designer works fine while the client won’t load.
the client WILL load if I use “basic” mode by launching with the -sa switch.
and lastly, my client WAS working for a few days… it just suddenly began producing the symptoms listed in my original post and I cannot fix it even with reinstall.
I was merely indicating that having a server on the same machine has caused flaky behaviour for me. I didn’t notice a difference without the server running, either. It’s simply wonky. It’ll work for days, even weeks, then one day the automagic will change its mind and it’ll break apparently out of the blue. I’m still convinced it’s that checkPID thing, but I’ve no proof, and I’ve neither time nor the inclination to wade through a gajillion lines of assembler in the debugger to figure it out. Lotus doesn’t pay me that well. (chuckle)- I had to launch the client from the designer icon to get it to work. Since your situation is reversed, have you tried the reverse? Launch designer from the client icon, the one below mail and such? Ignore that it’s senseless … if I had a dollar for every senseless dog and pony show I had to go through every day I could pay for new car, at the very least.
Simply try it, however goofy, and see what it does. If it works, try to remember that’s what fixed it last time. Post it here you can search for it later. (silly giggle) That’s what I did.
If it doesn’t work, try different ways to launch it. Not nlnotes, that’s the basic client, but notes.exe. Run it from the command line. Run it in VM. Run it from a batch file. Whatever you can think of.
this might be a notes.ini-problem: how many notes.ini do you have on your system? there should be one in the domino-dir (better data-dir) and one in the notes-dir (or data). none in the windows dir!
I had a similar appearance at some clients where the notesdata\workspace folder was corrupted → I’ve just renamed the orginal folder and copied it from another workstation and it worked fine.
I checked and there are not extra notes.ini’s hanging around on the system.
I also moved the server and the client notes.ini’s to their respective data directories and changed the icons reference the path’s to them explicitly. This did not help. Notes client still hangs, but Designer and Server boot fine.
The client’s notes2.exe process shows to be hogging 100% CPU.
