Designer Help

When in the Designer Help 8.5 clicking hotspots to other documents often brings up a prompt with the message “You cannot add a directory to your workspace”.

Subject: Same problems - plus indexed Search buggy as well

I always experience this when using the “Help” databases as opened directly from the Notes client (as opposed to using “Help - Help Contents” in the designer).

Also, when I SEARCH the indexed copy of that help file (launched from the Notes client manually by clicking on the db icon), I see bogus results… the results will not show records that have the word I was searching on to begin with. I have to use an older client, and the search will work then.

In addition, I also experience the type-ahead problem when that is opened as well, the type-ahead search window will open with the primary Notes client focused in the immediate background, and then you have to manually switch back to the Help database to see the type-ahead search results displayed. (as I have posted previously)

too much annoying

Subject: Should be fixed in 8.5.1

Subject: Won’t everything?

  • I’d like to see 8.5.1, the panacea of all DDE woes, if one may believe the scads of “it’s fixed in 8.5.1” posts on this Forum.

  • Is the constant re-re-re-re-reindexing of help “fixed in 8.5.1”? Each and every time I change search scope I get to wait for this freakish contraption to index again. The old system had one index, an index I had control over, that covered every single topic. It’s fine to force me to load a separate VM per R8.5 instance, but I can’t store one, single master help index?? Ludicrous. Straight to plaid. I’ve orders of magnitude more disk space than cores to run all those freaking VMs.

  • I’d like to know why “help” needs 8.5.1 to be “fixed”. Help is such a travesty of nightmarish unusability that one has to wonder how it ever got out the door. It must’ve either skipped QA entirely, or been tested by people who know XPages like the back of their hand, so they didn’t notice how hideous it really was. That’s why n00bs should always be in the loop on testing. They generate more bona-fide issues than twenty seasoned developers.

  • Take note, Lotus. Have n00bs test 8.5.1 if you’re really interested in proper functionality…
