Design Refresh Failed - You are not authorized

I am trying to allow user-developers to have designer access to a template. They do not have Designer access to the production database which inherits its design from that template. When the user attempts to manually refresh the database design, it fails with the Subject error message. The help documents indicate that a manual design refresh is to be used when you do not have Designer access.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Is this a bug in ND6.5?

Thanks,

dy

Subject: Design Refresh Failed - You are not authorized…

This isn’t a bug, it’s working as designed. However, I would say that the documentation isn’t as clear as it could be on this point

The bullet points listed (as below) appear to be AND rather than OR conditions! (i.e. indeed you can update the design of local databases, regardless of access – but that won’t necessarily replicate). For everyone else’s interest, here’s the relevant section from “Refreshing a design” in the 6.5 Designer Help (my emphasis):

Use the Refresh Design command to distribute design changes manually from a template to any databases linked to it. Manually refresh the design of a database when:

The database is stored locally; therefore, the nightly Designer server task doesn’t update the design.

You want to receive design updates before the scheduled update.

You don’t have Designer access to the database.

I’ve submitted some feedback on this to the relevant Lotus site.

Subject: Working as designed

If the users do not have Designer level access to the database, they can’t change the design of it. Directly or via Refresh Design.
