I have a list of 148 mail files, is there anyway of specifying them in a single group so that no one (cept admin) can access them?I know you can specify users in a deny group, but is there anyway of doing it by using the mail file name? (thereby affecting everyone who has access to the databases…)
The reason why: I have a list of possible dormant accounts, but I want to make sure that they are dormant before deleting them. Hence I thought add them all to a deny group. A user who cannot access their email will then quickly call saying they have a problem and so we will know its in use!
If they are in the deny group that is in the ‘deny access to server’ field on the server document they are bound to call as they won’t be able to get on the server, never mind their mail file!
YOu cant add them as a group to the database acls as the inidivdual entry for the user takes precedence, so even if they are in a deny group their individual entry will give them higher access than that.
… don’t know if you can create a list of mail databases as a group and then setup deny access to it. Groups are made up of ID’s instead of databases.
You may end up going to the ACL settings of each mail database and remove the ID of the person who it belongs to … if they still need it they will let you know after getting not authorized message… there may be better ways out there to handle this - but this is what i know.
Also if mail files are accessed via web, you may as well set ‘Maximum Internet name and pw’ to ‘No access’ in the advanced ACL settings.
Thank you for replying to the query, much appreciated!
If I put the owners of the mail files, their IDs into a deny group, it will work to a point, as other users, not the mail file owners my be accessing the mail file on the owners behalf - secretaries etc. They would still be able to access the mail file and so… no phone call.
If the database itself could be denied, then it would hit everyone who can access it, be there 1 or 101 IDs in the ACL.
The list of NSF files is in an excel doc, so cutting and pasting sounds good. Im not overly keen on manually accessing/selecting each mail files ACL and setting no access.
