We have stumbled on an error on Notes 6 E-mail that is a pain in the butt.
If soft delete is enabled, you have the preview pane open, open a document (double-click), then delete the document while open, you get the error “Cannot remove NotesDocument when instantiated by NotesUIDocument” and then the document is marked for delete but is not soft deleted.
If soft delete is NOT enabled, this error does not occur, it is marked for delete as usual.
which seems to imply this is user error. This is not user error, it is a bug and needs to be fixed.
I found technote 1096233 referring to this exact problem in release 5 stating it would be fixed in 5.0.7 and 6.0. It refers only to this problem occurring in the Sent view but it occurs in all views and it is not fixed.
I can’t believe nobody else has encountered this problem. Can someone concur this is a problem and provide any information about it?

We are experiencing the same thing with Domino 6.0.1 CF1 and 6.0.1 CF1 Clients. It is annoying and should be fixed. Seems it would be simple to fix too. I don’t use the preview pane, but I have quite a few users that do use it and they, of course, don’t understand what this error means and just want it fixed.
I understand what it means and think it is a bug that should be part of GUI-User-Friendliness-Fixes.

I’m quite amazed that this bug still exists. I was using 5.08 and it didn’t happen there…so seemingly the bug was fixed in R5, but then reintroduced in 6 and hasn’t been re-fixed yet.
I hate to moan, but I have to say that this type of annoying bug is just the thing that turns off users and increases the amount of complaining I hear about Notes. It can be very difficult to quiet the cries for Outlook when things like this happen to users so regularly.
Lotus, congratulations on all of the improvements in Notes 6, but please tackle this one in 6.02!

This is SPR TYAI5DTEP5 for fixing in a future release. The workaround is either don’t use the preview pane or don’t use soft deletions. Not terribly helpful.

Hmmmmm. I got the SPR number from IBM/Lotus Tech Support. When they gave it to me, I was able to find it in the fix list database, and it did not have a scheduled release. Now I can’t find it or any others that haven’t already been fixed.

We discovered another nasty little side effect to this. If a user is composing an e-mail that they had initially saved in the drafts folder they will get the error message upon sending the e-mail (assuming that they opened the document for edit from preview). If they also happen have their e-mail preferences set up to always prompt to save sent mail, they do NOT get the save prompt when they send their composed e-mail so if they wanted to save it they are out of luck. And, of course there’s also the added benefit of the irate user calling you because they just spent 45 minutes composing the e-mail and they don’t know for sure if it was actually sent(it does get sent, by the way).

I mean … how critical is this “error”?
If we look at it from a logic POV, why even open the mail? It’s already opened in the preview pane for the very purpose of reading it. Why not read it (and delete it) from the view? That works fine.
If you have the mail open, press ESC, then delete it - no problem.
In 6.5.2 you get a “nice” error message telling you that you can’t delete the document because it is currently open in the preview pane. Press “OK” and the mail will close, and the preview pane will jump to the next message while the selected document in the VIEW is still the document you want to delete. Press delete and it’s gone.
Ok, ok … I see the annoying element, and it might be a bad user interface situation, but a “bug” or an “error”?
