Deleted documents returning

I am running Domino 7.0.1 in a clustered environment on my mail hub. The “main” server is hosts all the mail files, and the cluster mate is where the replica copies are. People are reporting the documents that they have deleted a couple of weeks ago are returning. I figure that this has to do with deletion stubs, but, I can’t seem to get it to stop. Anyone have ANY suggestions on something I can do globally to make this stop?

Hi Andy,Couple of stuff you can check are as follows.

Check if soft deletions may be causing some issues. I think its enabled by default in R6/7

Use Notes Peek and analyze one mail database with this recurring problems.

Check if any agents are running that may be causing this.

Run nfixup, nupdall & Ncompact as required to see this resolves any issues.

Check your cluster directory for any possible corruptions or so.

If this is still not resolved, there may be hot fix for this issue, please double check with IBM on this if you have handy access.

Andy - Make sure you have proper backup of everyone’s mail file before applying any changes to fix these issues.

Hope this helps

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&uid=swg21098733It’s possible to find them by script with the AddedToThisFile API.

If you have a cluster, are your db in synch(Same number of documents) in each db?

We had this happen recently, right after we made a change to the mail template. Some users had over 65,000 deletions returned, some going back to 1998. Never did track down exactly what happened. It had nothing to do with users’ local replicas or purge interval, which are, or course, the usual suspects. Almost seemed like the mailfiles were never compacted and the docs somehow came back from the white space or were rebuilt from transaction logs. A mystery.

Michael,

have you track down the “added to this file” value of those documents? I had a similar problem in a 600+ Notes servers domain, 95 000 users. The NAB was not replicating correctly between replicas and old documents, deleted documents we’re appearing from time to time. I managed this issue with a script running against the AddedToThisFile property.

A deleted document only remains in a db with it’s deletions stubs, so i’m very curious how it can happen.
