Default Welcome Page

I know this topic has been discussed to death, but I really can’t find what I am looking for.

I have created a database based on the bookmark.nsf database. In my desktop policy settings document, I have dragged the database into the homepage database field, but the drop down below it doesn’t get populated. I have read in many places to append a “$” to the title of my welcome page, but this is very vague because I’ve tried appending a “$” to the db title, the frameset title, the alias, and I still can’t seem to get it to populate the drop down in order to select the welcome page. I thought since my database automatically launches a frameset, it would just do that when I put the database link in the homepage database field.

your help is appreciated.

The drop-down you speak of gets populated via a variable in the notes.ini file. This variable is updated when you create a new welcome page using the wizard and either (1) run in advanced mode, or (2) placed a $ at the beginning of the welcome page title. (You had mentioned that you appended the “$” sign; this is incorrect - it needs to be prepended.)

Try editing your welcome page title and clicking the Finish button. This should fix your problem.

Ok, so what I did was replace my database design with the original bookmark.ntf template so that I could access the “Create a new Welcome Page” wizard. However, in this wizard, it doesn’t give me the option to select a database, it just asks me to select whether I want a welcome page with frames and where I want my inbox or calendar to appear, things like that, it doesn’t let me do anything else. I prepended the $ to the welcome page name, but I didn’t finish since I could do anything with my database that I created in Designer.

The only welcome page deployment (that I am aware of) that is currently supported in Desktop Policies are those welcome pages which are created via the welcome page wizard.

An administrator with more experience in policies might be able to be of further assistance in deploying a database to your users.

I toyed around a bit more and was able to create a Personal Page using the wizard and I prepended the $ to the name and it appears in the drop down. I made my personal page blank, in a single frame. All I see when I try to edit it though is a field. I’ve dragged my database into it, but all I get is a database link. I want my database to be displayed.

I’ve gotten a little further. I created a welcome page with frames, but only using one frame. I’m selecting my frame content to only display 1 database from the check boxes available. When I get to the Content Placement form, I click on “Choose Notes Database” but when I choose my database, I get this message, “The Bookmark database is not a valid selection.” My database is based on the bookmark.ntf template, so I’m guessing that’s the problem, is there some kind of workaround?

Subject: RE: Default Welcome Page

unfortunately, due to the structure of the bookmark template and so many nested frames that it uses, it cannot be placed into a frame in a welcome page.

I’ve tried a workaround by creating a new database from scratch with a frameset. In that frameset, I make it display the frameset I want from the other database.

In the create custom welcome page wizard, I am able to select this new database, but now I am limited because it then prompts me to either select a folder or a view to display from that database, there’s nothing about displaying a frameset.

Subject: @PickList
