All efforts to get Notes to use the OS default browser fail. That is, an external browser is used, but not the OS default browser. Specifically Notes uses foreFox for external links and the OS uses IE8 for file associations. IE8 is set as default via Program Defaults. Most other programs that follow URLs get IE8.
Firefox was the default browser the firts time I switched from internal browser to external. Notes continues to use FireFox regardless of OS settings.

HiEnd users can no longer pick different browsers for different Notes Locations. Instead, they must select one browser choice, under File > Preferences, to dictate Notes’ behavior when clicking a hyperlink:
• Use the browser embedded in this client
• Use the browser I have set as the default for this operating system
Note: This has a side-effect in that you cannot open an URL links in mail messages or databases unless you have an instance of the browser running. Otherwise, it attempts to launch IE and disappears.
