@DBColumn does not connect to SQL

Hey All,

I am sure I am overlooking something simple here. I have tried all day to get this field look-up working. It is a very small thing I am trying to accomplish. I have a SQL table that contains a column of data I want to retrieve. I am trying to retrieve that data using @DBColumn.

I have tried the following combinations of options.

@DBColumn(“ODBC”:“NoCache”; Helpdesk ; “uid”; “pwd”; “Clients”; “client”:“Discard”; “Distinct”:“Ascending”)

The above is what I want to use.

I have also tried:

@DBColumn(“ODBC”; Helpdesk ; “uid”; “pwd”; “Clients”; “client”:“Discard”; “Distinct”:“Ascending”)

@DBColumn(“ODBC”:“NoCache”; Helpdesk ; “”; “”; “Clients”; “client”:“Discard”; “Distinct”:“Ascending”)

@DBColumn(“ODBC”:“NoCache”; Helpdesk ; “”; “”; “Clients”; “client”)

The above three samples produce a dialog box that prompts for a DSN uid/pwd.

@DBColumn(“ODBC”:“NoCache”; Helpdesk ; “Clients”; “client”:“Discard”; “Distinct”:“Ascending”)

The above produces a dialog box that contains a sql uid/pwd error (same modal error dialog box that would be displayed if you entered the wrong credentials in the DSN wizard)

So, short story is, no matter what I have tried, I can not get the field to populate. I have used the ndctest to verify that I can connect from my client successfully. I have also used oSQl to confirm that I do get the right data back if I do a “SELECT * FROM CLIENTS”

So, does anyone have any suggestions for how to make this work? I see lots of posts about this but no working examples.

The error I get on all failures is:

“ Could not execute @DB function”

Any and all feedback appreciated.

  1. What is the value of the HelpDesk variable?2) Try specifying the full name of the table e.g DBO.CLIENTS

Simon,

The Helpdesk Variable is the DSN name. I have put it in quotes and not in quotes.

I have tried specifying the table owner in the table such as dbo.Clients.

It certainly has to be in quotes, otherwise it will use the value of a variable called HelpDesk (which presumably doesnt exist)

Also check case sensitivity.

Subject: @DBColumn does not connect to SQL - SOLUTION

Simon,

Many thanks for the continued support. Two things brought this to resolution.

First, I had the DSN default data source which was ‘master’ not the DB I wanted to hit. Second, your point on the quotes for the DSN name.

Again, much appreciated.

Another gory detail is I have created a local Access DB, with one table called Names and a field called Name populated the field with 4 names of my family members and created a DSN to it with the Access driver. The Helpdesk DSN is using the SQL driver.

I get the same results there.

Cheers,
