Daylight savings time

I am trying to boil this down to a single question.

(Disregarding calendaring & scheduling applications), if Domino observes the OS timezone settings, there should be no ramifications to the DST changes for Notes 6/7 apps. Right?

Am I over-simplifying?

I am also ignoring custom apps which create C&S-type docs.

Basically, @Modified .LastModified (and similar functions) will be handled appropriately if the OS is patched.

I’m keeping my ears open and reading the IBM publications. I see all the C&S instructions for things like DWA, DAMO, SameTime, BusyTime, but there seems to be no required action for time-stamps on a document. That is how I am interpreting everything, but would be glad to hear a confirmation from others of you good people.

Hi Doug,

Your right, other applications are not tight to DST settings.

Am I over-simplifying? I don’t think so. The only things and not the least, are related to mail file (Calendar) and Resource db. If you have other applications that use calendar type of documents, you may need to check those databases.

I am also ignoring custom apps which create C&S-type docs. If i were you, i would look at them depending on how they were created.

Thank you,

JYR

If i were you, i would look at them …

Yes, I would look at them if I had any. I am disregarding them partly because I was trying to focus on the single issue and partly because none of my apps have any C&S-type interactions.

Thanks.

Subject: Regulatory issues?

Basically, @Modified .LastModified (and similar functions) will be handled appropriately if the OS is patched

Assume you work for a regulated industry and part of that regulation says you have to audit trail document changes. Assume that your OS push out will not happen to all clients or servers at the same time. While the patches are being pushed out, you’ll have time errors for all date/time related fields.

I think those statements are true and correct.

Question - anybody think that regulators are going to have heartburn about the issue? (wrong forum, but I’m guessing there are a few people here in regulated industries and I’d love your opinions).

TIA

Doug

Not sure how date/time errors will occur while patches are being pushed out, as long as it’s done prior to March 11. DST happens every year. All we’re changing is the day it happens.

Subject: RE: Regulatory issues?

There’s a difference, at least in the US. Every other year, the DST thing just happens because it’s part of how the OS works.

This year, unless the patch gets to each PC, it doesn’t happen when it should. If we know that the patch makes it to every PC in the org prior to 11.Mar, no problems. But what happens if the patch doesn’t roll-out to N PCs?

If two users edit a document, and one user has the patch but one doesn’t, then the audit trail for the document will be out of whack. It could show User B doing an action prior to User A based on the time stamp in the audit trail even though User A actually modified the doc first.

I think for us, this isn’t necessarily a total horror show - I can’t think of anything we do where the operations we track are really time sensitive. In a pharma company where PCs regulate the prep of batches of drugs…could be a bigger deal.

I have been trying to get IT to confirm that they can tell if a patch has rolled out or not so I have some sense of whether or not this is something I can cross off my worry list or not.

Thanks for the update - hope I’ve explained my concerns.

Doug
