The Day-At-A-Glance widget often is empty. The “Summarize” option is always switched on after Notes is started:

I have the same issue in LN8.5 beta1: calendar entries are showing in the normal “Day-At-A-Glance” widget but not when I check the “Summarized” option.
Subject: Can you try open in new window from the sidebar menu and then once it displays, close it. That might fix it
