Date/time field criteria to know if field will be affected by DST Changes 07

Hello, just wanted to see if someone else has encountered this train of thought in preparation for the DST changes. Technote: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&uid=swg21249177 states: -----------------------

"Problem

What are the effects of the changes to Daylight Saving Time (DST) rules for 2007 on Date/Time fields in Lotus Notes® and Domino®?

Solution

Date/Time entries will appear an hour later when all the following conditions are met:

  1. The entry was created prior to upgrading the operating system to the new DST 2007 rules;*

  2. The entry falls within March 11, 2007 2:00:00 AM and April 1, 2007 2:00:00 AM, or within October 28, 2007 2:00:00 AM and November 4, 2007 2:00:00 AM; and

  3. The entry consists of both a Date and Time.** "

Just wondering if in #2 above, there is a reason the technote does not mention ANY future year rather than just 2007? (For example if there are archival dates specified within documents, or if there were recurring calendar entries going well into 2008 for example.) And of course, the dates under consideration would change per year for eg., in 2008 the second Sunday in March would be 9th.

Thanks…

I have a huge concern with prior year entries, not just with calendaring, but with all applications that utilize Date/time fields. From what I found any date value entered that is considered part of DST in 2007 but was not in that day/month range in prior years will display the incorrect time after the OS patch is applied. For example 11/1/2006 11:00 AM is not part of DayLight Saving Time. However in 2007, Nov 1 is within the DST time frame. When opening a record that has that value it will now display 11/1/2006 12:00 PM.

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

In

Agents for updating Calendaring and Scheduling entries and Resource Reservation entries for Daylight Saving Time (DST) 2007

Agents & Operating Instructions

All of the agents have the ability to operate in a report mode, and the ability to act on entries created when using a Notes 5.x template design. By default some of the agents are designed to act only on entries within 2007 and 2008. This parameter can be adjusted, and is discussed in detail in the section “Agent Options”. The configuration of these options is also discussed further below. It is recommended that databases be backed up prior to using the agents.

Years of data to act on. Agents that do not act on selected documents use a FOR loop to determine the limits for the year(s) of the data acted on. The default for the loop is 2007-2008. Note: The FOR loop must be manipulated by directly editing the code line “For yr=2007 To 2008”, which is present in the core section of the Initialize event rather than the section titled “USER DEFINED VARIABLES”.

In 2008 March would be 9th, but in Notes, the only thing you will have will be the new DST Setting. Look in the '“Agent details” section,

JYR.
