HiI have distributed some database links via Desktop setting in a policy. Most works fine but one pointing to the Domino Directory on the server opens the clients local personal address book instead. How come?
I thought a database link pointed to the database ID and not the filename. but it seems when opening the database link to the Public Address Book from a client, it opens the local address book. This happens for all users.
I have deleted the link in desktop setting and re-created multiple times and by dragging and dropping in different ways. Also tried deleting the link from clients and restarting Notes, so the link appears again but with same result.
When linking to the Domino Directory directly from a client, or by mailing it to others it works perfekt and opens the correct database on the server.

Could it be that the local addressbook is a replica of the addressbook on the server?

HiThanks for your respons.
No. Every user has his own local address book with unique ID.
My guess is the link has the property of opening the database “names.nsf”, and this is found locally, and is the fastest accessible, so it opens this one.
But I thought the lhe link would find the database by DB ID…

I’m not an administration expert, but I know development, and I wouldn’t know how to go about creating a bookmark link that goes to the same filename on whatever server happens to be “fastest accessible.” You are correct in thinking that a bookmark normally contains a replica ID. I would therefore do two things:Check that the replica ID of the users’ names.nsf is really different from the server’s names.nsf. I know you think that it is, but this is really weird so you should check.
Use Domino Designer to open your bookmark.ntf and look at the design of this outline entry. What type of outline entry is it? What’s the other data associated with it?

HiThanks for your interest.
All users have unique IDs for the local address books. All users are roaming, so if the ID of each users local address book was the same as the Domino Directory I would have lots of other worries
And I have double checked with 5 random users.
When hoovering over the database link in the desktop setting document the status line says : “company” Address book is on server “mailserver/certifier”. So the link points to the correct database on the correct server.
Other databases work fine!
Initially when databases are first put into bookmarks for clients Hoovering does not state anything in the status line (grey bottom line) for databases. But for the Domino Directory is says : “Company” Directory is on local. So allready when the link is added to users bookmark is point to local address book.
After clicking the Domino Directory link the client opens the personal address book and hoovering over the link it says : “Users surname” Address book is on local.
I don’t get it …
