DAOS - Sizes do not make sense

Hi,

I have implemented DAOS (Domino R8.5.1 FP3) for about 20 mail files which are all large.

The mail file sizes reduced dramatically but the figures relating to the physical, logical and DAOS store do not make sense. Here are the figures (all total for the 20 mail files) :

Physical Size : 12.6 GB

Locigal Size : 95.3 GB

DAOS Size : 110 GB

DAOS is Sync’ed and pruned up to 7 days.

Am I correct in saying that maximum DAOS size should be the logical size minus the physical size (i.e. 95.3 - 12.6 = 82.7 GB)

Why is the DAOS store so large ?

Any help/advice really appreciated.

Thanks,

Steven.

Subject: RE: DAOS - Sizes do not make sense

I’m no expert but I’ll throw out an idea or 2

Design, document data and LZ1 compression >>> these could and can play in to the “size” of the mail database. If your mail.box files aren’t using LZ1, I would suspect that new attachments aren’t being compressed. Also, if you didn’t enable LZ1 compression before enabling DAOS and compacting to create the datastore, the attachments in the datastore are NOT going to be compressed.

I know that the numbers can be confusing.

I have a replica server and any given users mail file and replica might be 2 different logical and physical sizes.

Subject: Still not sure

If compression is on or not, surely the DAOS datastore should be smaller than the combines physical and logical disk sizes of the DOAS enabled mail files. There must at least some attachments that the mailfiles have in common !
