DAOS in a VMware Environment

Hello,I’ve been led to understand that since DAOS requires transaction logging to be enabled this would preclude utilising DAOS when Domino is running as a VM.

I believe that the transaction logs must be located on local storage, but in a VMware environment all the storage is on the SAN, hence DAOS wouldn’t be supported in a VMware environment.

Can anybody clarify this and also is there anyone running DAOS on a Domino server running on VMware ESX?

Subject: Transation logging does work

in a SAN environment. Just be aware that you should carve out a physical disk in the SAN to dedicate to the txn logs. It will work if the txn logs share physical devices but there could be performance issues if the server is too heavily loaded.

Subject: No problem on VM

We have 2 Mail servers on ESXi bth running 8.5 and DAOS with 1,000 users each. For the translogs we used an RDM instead of VMDK

Subject: RDM

Thanks for the response. Are you using RDM for performance reasons?

Also what type of connectivity is your storage, fibre channel or iSCSI?
