DAOS--Does it only work on new emails after enabled?

If we enable DAOS on our mail server does it only take new attachments and store them in a single location? Or does it go through all the old emails and consolidate those attachments as well?

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Once you enable DAOS on the server you then need to run your dBs that you want to use DAOS thru compact with -C -daos on switches. That way we will extract the attachments from the only the dBs that you want to be DAOSified.

After you do this, all attachments that would get stored into the DAOSified dB are stored in DAOS automagically for you.

Subject: Excellent…one more question

That is good news. But the plot thickens.

What we are in the process of doing is searching all of our email DBs for social security numbers so we can delete them. We’re using Sherpa Software’s Mail Attender. It works for emails but it doesn’t identify patterns in email attachments very well.

I was thinking we could use DAOS and search the attachments using another application we have (ID finder). It works well with Office docs. But how do we know which attachment belonged to which user? Does the DAOS DB indicate that?

Thanks,

Greg

Subject: Ya can’t get there from here

That kind of backlinkage is not currently available to you. At least not the last time I checked but if I’m wrong then Dan or Pat will correct me.
