DAOS catalog

Hi All,

I recently upgraded my partitioned test server to 8.5 and installed DAOS. It seems to work fine, however at every server restart I get the following:

Lotus Domino (r) Server, Release 8.5 HF84, February 18, 2009

Copyright (c) IBM Corporation 1987, 2008. All Rights Reserved.

26-03-2009 09:47:12 Recovery Manager: Restart Recovery complete. (0/0 database

s needed full/partial recovery)

26-03-2009 09:47:40 Informational - The DAOS catalog is not synchronized. Dele

tions will be postponed. Please run ‘tell daosmgr resync’ at the next convenient

opportunity to re-synchronize.

It doesn’t matter how many times I try to resync the daos manager, the message keeps popping up. Even added a program document that resyncs every hour. I don’t think it is a big deal, but how do I get rid of this message?

Thanks,

Marco van Oostende

Subject: Please open a PMR

Customer weight is the fastest way to get bugs fixed…

I am working with the DAOSTeam on what may or may not be the same problem in the Iris Domain… Important you open a PMR so when we do find a fix they will send you a HOTFIX through support to validate it’s the same issue.

Subject: that “resyncing” feeling

To directly answer your question, DAOS is logging this warning to the log file, if you see it on the console that indicates that you have requested “log to console”.

You can change this by finding this setting in your notes.ini

Log=log.nsf, 1, 0, 7, 40000

and changing the first parameter to 0

Log=log.nsf, 0, 0, 7, 40000

There is no way to disable this one single message.

So, now the real question is why can’t you get in sync? DAOS will only delete objects with zero (0) references when it knows that it has accounted for all the references (that is, the catalog is synchronized ). So, while DAOS will function quite well with the catalog out of sync, eventually we will want to clean up objects that are no longer needed.

Can you run this console command:

tell daosmgr status dbsummary

I would like to know

a) how many total databases DAOS is tracking references for?

b) approximately how many total references in the DAOS catalog ?

c) how many of these databases are marked as anything other than “Synchronized”?

d) of this group (the non-synchronized databases), are any in a state other than “Needs Resync” ?

when you run a resync, do you get any errors reported by DAOSMGR?

do you ever see a Resync completed message ?

03/26/2009 07:36:11 AM DAOSMGR: Resync completed

If you get the DAOS engine status, is it in the Needs Resync state ? (as opposed to a Resyncing state which indicates a sync is in progress )?

sh stat daos.engine.*

DAOS.Engine.Catalog = Needs Resync

DAOS.Engine.Encryption = Enabled

DAOS.Engine.Status = Enabled

DAOSMGR: Status DBSUMMARY completed

The one file that is out of sync is the one I am working on at the moment, but I don’t attach files in it in any way. There are no messages in the log (misc events) about resync completed, besides the times I run it manually.

Looking at the status, the following is returned:

sh stat daos.engine.*

DAOS.Engine.Catalog = Needs Resync

DAOS.Engine.Encryption = Enabled

DAOS.Engine.Status = Enabled

3 statistics found

and no errors with a manual resync:

tell daosmgr resync

27-03-2009 08:24:43 Rebuilding the DAOS Catalog.

27-03-2009 08:25:14 DAOSMGR: Resync completed

On the server environment, nothing much happens. I installed 8.0.1 pretty default somewhere in april last year, added Quickr on in, upgraded to 8.5, added a hotfix and followed the steps from the LS09 SHOW101 presentation. Transactional logging was installed after the 8.5 upgrade.

I will open a PMR as requested by John, the fix may be required by the customer before we upgrade their environment.

Thanks,

Marco
