How far in advance to upgrading is it a good idea to use this tool? Too soon, other than to see that there is an advantage, the numbers are probably not good.
When can you run the tool? Any time or off hours?
Are there any performance issues while running the report?
DAOS -
How does this work when a mail file is moved from one server to another server, non clustered.
How dos this tool work moving from one domain to another, originating domain has DAOS running, but the new domain does not.

It really depends on the amount of activity in your environment. Bottom line this is that the output is only a snap shot in time.

It can be run with the server up or down. It does consume a fair amount of memory and some CPU so if your machine is already running hot you would want to run it off peak or with the server down.

see above.

Attachments need to be moved back into the NSF before the database can be moved. If you are using the Domino Administrator to make a new copy of the database then the attachments will be inlined into the NSF during the copy. If you want to move the database from the OS then you would need to run ‘compact -DAOS off’ to move the attachments back inline in the database.

Again, the attachments need to be moved back in line into the database.
will the attachments be copied with the database if the mail-file is moved to the other server via an AdminP request (e.g. in Domino Administrator → Person → Move…)?
Subject: Yes, if using Adminp it will be totally transparent…
The only time you have to worry about .nlo files not being copied or replicated to a destination is if you are doing some type of Copy of the Database through the Operating System e.g. net share or ftping a file to another machine… If you use Notes to create the copies or replicas it’s all transparent… No worries…
