DAMO does not download all emails from Notes Mailbbox

Because the IMAP implementation on Domino 8.5 is currently ‘broken’ - attempts to use IMAP on Domino 8.5 to get email replicated to a client like Thunderird, Outlook Express etc are curently and predictably crashing my 8.5 server - I decided to try the latest DAMO version (Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook) and although I eventually persuaded it to work, I’ve been very disappointed by the quality of mail file replication/download.

I know I have 692 emails in my Lotus Notes mail 'Inbox/ but only 336 are currently showing up in my MS Outlook ‘Damo-driven’ mailbox. And lots of well-populated sub-folders on my Lotus client are visible as folders but completely empty on my MS Outlook 2007 DAMO-driven mail client.

I need an MS Outlook client because I also need to collect email from an Exchange server - but guess what, if you install the DAMO connector on Outlook, even though you can then also install the native Microsoft Exchange connector there too, neither client downloads any email at all! Remove one of them and all is well again.

Like it or not, Outlook is ‘out there’, and has valuable display, formatting and organising features that are not present in the current 8.5 client, but on the basis of my current experience with Domino 8.5 and Outlook 2007 with DAMO, I’m not able to recommend the approach wholeheartedly to anyone I support in my business role. That’s a shame because if it interoperated perfectly with no missing messages, it would be a really good way to offer ‘Notes Doubters’ as a way to work with email.

Has anybody got any observations on how to make the DAMO enabled MS Outlook 2007 client show exactly the same data as the Notes clients with no (apparent) loss of emails as between the Notes and the DAMO client?

The IMAP replication from Domino 8.5 to the Outlook client (i.e not using DAMO) when it /was/ working - I gather the problem of it crashing 8.5 servers is being worked on by Lotus - was 100% accurate.

I also discovered this issue, I found that the missing emails or messages don’t replicate into outlook. By default, you will only see the last 90 days of messages and will be limited to 200M of email. In the Outlook tools → options → Domino Preferences you will find a replication section. If you increase it up to 365 days and 1500M. Then close out of Outlook and reopen it. Once it finishes replication, go back in and lower the number of days in those options. If you leave the number at 1 year replication will be slower.

DAMO by default only replicates 90 days of your mailbox.

You’ll need to add these lines to your notes.ini in \Documents and Settings\User\local settings\Application Data\Lotus\DominoForOutlook.

User_Server_Purge=5000

User_Server_Theshold=0

User_Server_maxsize=25000000

Set your Send/Receive time period to a one minute interval.

Drop me a mail at gfcousins at gmail dot com and I’ll send you more tweaks for DAMO.

Gary, DAMO 8.5 available or not?If not then which version of DAMO will support Domino 8.5 Server?

Subject: Hmm - it’s not that good still

I made the .ini changes as recommended, but it’s still not fetching all my email properly in the way that IMAP does - especially from sub-folders. It’s also been putting a strange HTML tag at the top of plain text messages it downloads from the Domino Server, and sometimes, (randomly it seems) when sending emails, it starts a new line for each letter in the email - which makes it unreadable! it also seems impossible to send an email from DAMO in ‘Plain text’ which some of my agent based systems need for emailed in ‘commands’.

The calendar and contacts integration is pretty much OK, but as soon as I also attach my Exchange account to Outlook, they both sulk and stop working completely.

So since I have now and finally sorted (by PMR) the very severe Domino 8.5 IMAP problem (IMAP connections were crashing the whole server - a new IBM hot fix has sorted it out) I’m reverting to the very much more efficient IMAP route in Outlook for the time being.

Thanks however for the detailed and helpful replies.
