DAMO 6.5.4 - Mapi Set Connectivity Problem For Non Admins

This issue pertains to the Gold Version 6.5.4 setup.

I’m having an issue around setting up a MAPI profile with a non-administrative user profile. This user profile is not permissioned to install applications (obviously an admin is).

I’ve installed DAMO 6.5.4 (Multiuser) as an administrator on the workstation.

As an admin, I’m able to properly setup a MAPI profile, and start using DAMO. However, I am

unable to even setup a MAPI profile as a regular (nonadmin) user. It states that I’m not able to connect to the Domino Server

I get an error that states “Unable to connection to server. Ther server may be down or you may have entered the wrong address. Please try again.”

Is there a security setting that is required in order to properly setup a mapi for a user?

Isn’t this profile driven functionality. If I deploy to multiple users, the user will have to setup the MAPI profile on their workstation with their own account.

Hi Len,

First, is it your intent to have users share a workstation? This would be the advantage of a multi-user install.

Yes, there are security settings that apply to the ability of a user to setup his profile. A DAMO user needs to be a member the Power User group at the least. What is the operating system you are using? For Windows 2k, is is an easy matter to assign a user to the Power User group. For XP, there needs to be a little more configuration. Searching the Windows on-line help would provide some guidance for assigning a user to this group. Also, the Release Notes for DAMO contain detailed information that you’ll find helpful. When a user’s profile is first initialized, the greeting message points to the URL for this file:

   http://www.lotus.com/doc

As this is part of the Notes/Domino Release Notes, this is the direct URL for the install of DAMO:

 http://www-12.lotus.com/ldd/doc/domino_notes/6.5.4/readme654.nsf

The bottom line is that you, as a Windows administrator can install the program files for DAMO. Then with the Windows logon of each user, the profile needs to be created.

The error message, “Unable to connection to server …” is pretty generic. There’s a variety of things to try if the previous references don’t resolve the problem.

Please let us know how things worked out…
