Damaged .NSF file

Hello folks,

I have a damaged NSF file and am not sure what happened to it. The error message says that the file is truncated and may have been damaged. Is there a repair tool available for NSF files?

Does Lotus Corp have any free tool to open or correct this file?

Thanks.

How to fix NSF Issues:

-Copy the NSF file into a new local location that has Lotus Notes

-Using the Command prompt go to Lotus Notes home. (i.e. c:\lotus\notes)

-Run the commands:

(Enter the user’s Notes password if prompted)

nfixup.exe .nsf

ncompact.exe -c .nsf

-Once the file has been fixed and compacted. Rename the original NSF in source (i.e. _bkup or _currupt) to distinguish the corrupt version from the fixed one.

-Add the fixed NSF to source and process as needed.

If such solution can’t aid you, apply to Lotus Notes Repair Toolbox http://www.lotusnotes.repairtoolbox.com/ tool recovers .nsf file all versions of Lotus Notes

Restore the latest backup. If it says the file is truncated, that means the actual physical length of the file on disk is shorter than it is supposed to be. That means that the operating system has de-allocated physical disk blocks that should be in the file. No recovery tool that operates below the level of the full disk will get them back. If there’s been activity on the disk since they were de-allocated, those blocks are likely to have been allocated to other files and overwritten. If they haven’t been reallocated or otherwise overwritten, then it’s conceivable - but highly unlikely - that a disk recovery specialist might be able to identify them. It’s much more likely that they will take your money and tell you that they tried but failed. So restore from backup.

If there’s enough of the file to be salvaged, you can run fixup on it. (It’s part of the installation; you’ll find instructions for it in Administrator Help.)
