Customisation of 8.0.2 installation

Hi

I am customising the 8.0.2 installation and have made good progress but have now stumbled on a couple of points. To date I have followed the instructions which reduce the install kit size and also tweaked the install.xml file to remove the Activities option from show but…

1 - I can’t find where to adjust the second level of items under the ‘Notes Client’ option. I would like to change it so that DECS and Modem files are not selected by default (and hide the single logon and migration options too. Are these buried in the install.xml file or stored somewhere else ?

2 - I would also like to remove the tick from the box ‘Make Notes my default email program’. Can someone tell me where I can do this ?

Thanks for any help,

Paul

Are you tweaking it by hand and messing around or are you following a guide?

I usually do it with the InstallShield Tuner which allows you to do all of that. You basically install the client the way you want, and it creates a transform file for the MSI.

Then you can also tweak all the options, directories. You can even use a config file to auto configure the first start up screen.

Not very easy to use and quite hidden but there are a couple of guides around.

Check it out.

So far I have followed the instructions for ‘Reducing the Notes Install Kit size’.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/domhelp/v8r0/topic/com.ibm.help.domino.admin.doc/DOC/H_REDUCING_NOTES_STANDARD_INSTALL_KIT_SIZE_STEPS.html

This removed the Lotus Symphony, Sametime and Composite Application Editor choices.

I then manually tweaked the install.xml to remove the Activities option.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/domhelp/v8r0/topic/com.ibm.help.domino.admin.doc/DOC/H_CUSTOMIZING_NOTES_8_INSTALL_FOR_ISV_OR_THIRD_PARTY_ECLIPSE_FEATURES_9460_OVER.html

However on neither of these pages are there instructions on how to change the default state of the items below ‘Notes Client’. I am particularly interested in have the DECS and Modem Files options disabled by default.

The second problem occurs on the next page of the installation. The option ‘Make Notes my default email client is ticked’ and I would like to remove this tick.

If these problems can’t be solved using the methods I have used already could you give me some advice on where to download the tuner and how to use it as I have looked but can’t find it anywhere - also does it cost money ?

Thanks

Paul

Subject: Completely Free

It’s completely free and if you order the Notes CD it came with it. If you download it, you can get it from Passport Advantage:

This is a nice example:

And here you have a guy who made a very nice guide about the InstallShield Tuner. I think it’s the best resource site for this:

Everyone should know this tool =)
