Custom sorting for multivalue categories

Hi,

I’m trying to do something that would appear to be simple (esp. to a non-technical client) but I can’t seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated…

I want to categorize documents in a view such that:

  • a doc can belong to multiple categories

  • the categories appear in a custom sort order, not ascending or descending

For example, say there’s a single doc that has category field value of {“one” : “five” : “ten”}…

If I categorize in a view I get:

five

… doc #1

one

… doc #1

ten

… doc #1

What I want is:

one

… doc #1

five

… doc #1

ten

… doc #1

The multivalue seems to mess up the ususal method of having a hidden sort column. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

the sort is sorting correctly F O T for five one ten, alphabetically,

If you want a numerical sort you will need to write a formula to convert these values to numbers in a hidden sort column

Hi,

I know the sort works aplhabetically. I need the numeric sort.

The hidden sort column doesn’t work because of the multivalues. When I try it the document appears three times in EACH category.

If you can make this work please post the column properties and formulas. To me, and some other strong developers I have asked, it is impossible.

If you know it’s impossible, I would love to hear that too! he he
