Custom Military (Army) DomDir Template

Does anyone know of a custom Domino Directory template for the military? Specifically the Army. We know we can customize ourselves but would like to avoid reinventing the wheel if possible.

I appreciate any advice you provide.

Thanks

Debra:

This may not be what you are looking for, but if you have peers in other areas of the Army, that have already done something like this, I would ask them (maybe an equivalent of an “Army Lotus Notes Users Group”).

I don’t know of an existing solution and suggestion of others to check with other armed forces branches/departments is a good one.

My organisation wanted to customise the template to include all sorts of things such as CVs, training information, links to other information in other DBs. The whole process was so complicated we decided to develop a separate DB. The main reason for this was upgrades to Domino:

The NAB is the fundamental Domino DB and it changes with every major release and some point releases. We just didn’t want to keep having to implement the same complex changes in NAB after NAB. There are tools and techniques around to help manage this but we figured keeping them separate was the simplest option wrt maintenance.

Our Directory DB does contain a field where we store the abbreviated Notes name. We add a lookup view in the NAB with the abbreviated Notes name as the first column then with subsequent columns containing useful information we might want to use in the Directory DB - internet email address, the clients the person access Notes from etc. We have a scheduled agent that checks whether the abbreviated Notes name stored in the Directory DB actually exists in the NAB. If no match is found the agent sets a flag field and we use that in the View Selection formula for an Admin view that shows us where some housekeeping is required.

Hi Debra,

The Army might have several custom Notes templates already. I write this because I did work with Lotus on an e-mail project for the DoD that had custom templates. My part of the project was not classified so, telling you and the world this much is okay. I hope! :-))
