Critical : Server uses DBs outside of the Data Path

Hi all !

Our server is running a while on 8.5.1.

From time to time we had to restore some databases to get some documents back. The restore job will place the db in a separate directory OUTSIDE of the Data directory from the server. So normally i can map my client to that location and copy the documents into the productive database.

Since running 8.5.1 i cannot delete that restored database anymore without shutting down the server in advance.

I have tried to copy a local DB to the server (outside the Data Dir !) and have restartet the server. After that, the nServer.exe is using that database ! And even more critical, it also replicates the data in it !!

I have double checked my notes.ini and also have checked on all other servers running 8.5.1 and YES, this strange behavior is the same on ALL SERVERS !

Is Domino 8.5.1 not just using the specified Data Dir anymore ?? Does it really check ALL directories on the drive ??

From my point of view this is a critical problem and if somebody can verify that, i need to contact IBM Support…

On my laptop (win7 64 bit) i have a test server (8.5.1) and some copies of the data directory + 2 versions of full clients (7.0.3 and 8.5.1FP3) sitting on the same drive.

the server stays well within the assigned territory.

Subject: Not Seeing This Either

I was pretty sure we weren’t seeing this behavior that you describe but I just went out to our Domino Servers to check. There are databases outside the Domino Server’s data directory that are not being touched by the Domino Server.

I am not sure if you have a Directory Link set up on your Domino Server that points to a high level on your drives outside of your Data Directory, if the Domino Server processes would find those databases. I suspect they would though, so you might want to check Directory Links.
