The server stops sending mail to the internet. Here is what is happening.
-
Internal mail routes fine
-
Internet mail is received.
-
The client has all of his mail forwarded to their Blackberry phones using a Rule in their mail application.
I have found several individual messages, most of the time newsletters, but one a “complaint” from their Windows server that stalled the outgoing mail. They have 5 mail.box files. The errant message was always the first message in any mail.box that had undelivered mail.
When I deleted the message mail starts going out immediately.
The outages have lasted as long 24 hours (we did a test to see if it would start sending after certain time… it did not).
I would think that the server should bypass those messages and continue sending mail…
Any ideas to overcome this persistent problem would be appreciated.

WHat is the value set for Maximum Transefer threads.
you can find this setting in Router/SMTP → Restr and Controls → Transefer controls.
Looks like you have minimal transefer threads set for the server causing it to hold other messages till the first message transeferred.
During this time what does the mail routing log say? does it give any error?
Try changing the logging level to Verbose to get more info in the log for smtp

It had 4 transfer threads set, I changed it to 15, 3 for each mail.box file. Changed logging to verbose, and now just watching to see what happens. The problem newsletters don’t show up everyday.

4 threads was too less. What is the mail traffic?
We will wait and watch…
