I am trying to create a template from a database using the usual method of creating a new copy of the database, and then using the database properties to set the database file as a master template.
However, the template name is cleared from the database properties as soon as the properties box is closed. I have also noticed the following error on the server:
Attempt by … to define database as template … has been rejected.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it anything to do with the ODS as the original files came from an R5 environment?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Create Master Template authority is also granted to any name or group found in the Administrators field (also on the Security tab).
Something else I noticed about this feature. As an administrator, I was able to go into the properties box and set this field for a developer who didn’t have the authority. He then went in and added some additional characters to the template name and exited. When he came back, the changes were no longer there (as you’d expect).
On a whim, I then made a copy of the template and the new copy DID contain the changes he had made in the proper field. Very odd…

If you are trying to to this on a Domino 6 server you will need the right to “Create master templates”.
The new entry to allow this can be found in the Server Access section under the Security tab of the server document.
