CreateView and Private Views

I would like to build a simplified UI to creating private views for my users. I would like for them to select a template view from a list and have the system autogenerate a new private view.

The database method CreateView allows me to create a view from the template, but it is a shared view. The method does not have any parameters to specify the view as private.

Has anyone else been able to do this? I can post my code sample if necessary.

TIA

Why not consider a “Show Single Category” view (Embedded view in a form, view being categorized by username). This view can be categorized by Username so that users can see their own information like a private view and no need to go for any complicated programming and no need to anticipate problems with private views in future. Do you think the “Show single category” view will not suit your requirement?

Hi Narasimhan,

I have actually created a working prototype of that very functinality with one of my other applications. However, there are a number of limitations of the single category embedded views. The users prefer the full functionality of the private views.

Private views can be a pain, but they still allow the users to limit what they see within an application with alot of information.

Thanks,

JR

JR, I guess I miss your purpose…

is it a security issue or a user defining his own views issue ?

Would Reader fields do what you want ???
