Create a Word document and save as an attachment

I have a document in notes, I basically need to render it to richtext and then drop that into a word document, then save the word document. Then create a memo that has that word document in it…

Any ideas how to do that…

Thanks in advance…

I have no full blown solution to what you try to do, but lots of pointers.

A very interesting one are the rich text samples of Julian Robichaux . His site is nsftools.com; check

http://www.nsftools.com/tips/NotesTips.htm#rtfexport

Another interesting bit of information is the letter generator over at OpenNTF.org; check

Also, eknori’s post regarding attachment handling might help:

The post is in german, but the content will help you a lot in your endeavours.

He also has two posts in english on inserting richtext into richtext using lotusscript:

and

http://www.eknori.de/archives/348

In these posts, he refers to other solutions as well.

So, I think that should get you started.

You have a few important decisions to make: make sure you understand what you do when you start Word from Notes to insert information via COM, and what happens when you start it for editing by the user. If you just start Word from within Notes, then Word will be a subprocess to Notes - whenever you close Notes, Word will have to be closed as well. It might be a good idea to start Word as a desktop child process so it’s on its own. If you want to assert that each change in a word attachment is reflected in the attachment in Notes as well, you have to make Word a subprocess of Notes.

Have fun building your solution.

Without know your detailed requirements, I have a suggestion. If you want to keep the look and feel exactly, you may want to consider Adobe Acrobat files instead of Word.

Is the document that is in Notes an attachment? If not, just copy and paste into Word. Next go into Lotus Notes, File, preferences, user preferences. In the additional options area, there’s an “Enable MsOffice 97 send to” spot. Place a check mark there and then save. Restart both applications. Open your word document and the go to FIle, send to. An attachment should then get created in a new email.

Does it have to be a word document.Cause you could use RenderToRTItem that will give you an image of the document in a richtext field which you could easily add to the body of the email…
