On opening any Mail related Database (archives etc…) the system CPU Usage shoots to 100% for the EXPLORER.EXE process. This results in the Lotus Notes Client 7.0 HF277 & the entire WinXP Pro OS slowing-down.
All is once again OK on closing the rogue Mail Database.
This is not the case though when opening any other Lotus Notes Application Database or Program - all is OK.
Have tried the following to no effect …
Deleted the cache.ndk, bookmark.nsf and log.nsf files.
Deleting the FT Index of the Mail Database and recreating it.
Ctrl+Shft+F9 to Update all Views in the Mail Database.
Compacted the Mail Database and Notes Workspace.
A through Virus & Spyware Scan too has been performed on the system.
We appreciate any assistance in resolving the above problem.
Is consistancy checks running against any of these databases? Are they very large databases? If they are large and consistance checks are running, that could bring it to a crawl. If this is the case, it usually happens when you start Notes.
Try running nfixup, nupdall & ncompact on the databases, with Notes Closed. You can do that at a DOS prompt. If Notes is trying to fix something, let it finish. Sometimes it’s better to run these things when Notes is closed.
Try opening the mail databases on another PC … else un-install / re-install Lotus Notes … you can also try opening them in Windows safe mode to see if it is a windows issue …
Subject: RE: CPU Usage 100% for EXPLORER.EXE process
Reinstalling the client did not help. Took your cue on the windows safemode approach to isolate any OS issues but the problem persists in safemode too. Have not attempted opening the dbs. on another workstation. Thanks Ayaz for your post, we will update this post with more findings if any and hopefully finally with a resolution.
