CPU issue with Traveler/domino 8.5.2 on Linux

Hi all,I was running the previous 8.5.2beta domino (needed for the Traveler, also in beta in Linux) and it was running fine. Now that 8.5.2 officially appeared (and Traveler for Linux as well) i’ve updated both products to ‘Final Release’. Now, just after the restart of domino, i see high cpu usage (even when nobody tries to sync from a pda/smartphone).

Tasks concerned : http and traveler : eating 100% of the CPU (ask you can see from top ):

2121 notes 15 0 680m 108m 27m S 50.3 10.6 570:54.33 http

2128 notes 15 0 1089m 204m 31m S 49.7 19.9 571:17.94 traveler

Platform : Red Hat Linux 5.5 i386

I’ve read that there are known issues for the SMTP task (the reason why i haven’t updated our 8.5.1 mail server to 8.5.2) . Is there also a known issue for Traveler ?

Hi,

I am also facing the exactly same issue. Had any one of you came accross the solution. Please advise.

Thanks,

We have the same issue with 2 of our Linux servers.

I would be very interested to know the resolution of possible. The link is not working…

I don’t think Step 2 is really doing anything for you if the settings don’t save. Step 1 does bring the total processor usage down to 50% or so when compared to changing nothing. I think I found one better, though. While you have the Domino server running, open another terminal window, use su to login as root, and then open the java control panel. Give it about 15 seconds and then take a look at your processor usage again. If it does what I’ve seen here, you should notice it also, so please let me know what happens on your side. This also works without making the changes in Step 1, but of course the processor is pegged until opening the java control panel.

Subject: http and not only traveler

I’ve just removed Traveler from that server to see if it was Traveler or http related. Even after having removed traveler (and obviously having restarted domino), i still see that 100% cpu usage, but just with http. Can other people confirm ? or probably i’ll install a fresh (non upgraded) 8.5.2 server and see if it can be reproduced

Subject: RE: http and not only traveler

I have not noticed this at all. I did set up a new Linux Box using CentOS 5 and installed domino 8.5.2 and Traveler 8.5.2 fresh. I have noticed that the host memory usage is up in the 1GB range but no CPU spikes as of yet.

Subject: Any progress?

I’ve got domino 8.5.2 running on CentOS with traveler and the latest SMTP fix applied and although everything works great, the CPU usage of the HTTP and TRAVELER tasks is maxed out.

I even went through all of the Domino Configuration Tuner recommendations, thinking I might hit upon something in the process. Really cool tool, but as far as this problem, not really any change.

Not sure what else to try.

Subject: High CPU on traveler, http and runjava tasks

I’m running a test-installation on a multi-core 64-bits linux system, and are seeing the same, over 100% (100% is 100% on 1 cpu core) load on traveler, http and runjava

System:

Lotus Notes Traveler 8.5.2.1 Build 201012031608 running on Lotus Domino server Release 8.5.2FP1|November 29, 2010 on a UNIX platform

From “top”:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

27804 notes 15 0 385m 135m 29m S 119 1.7 2:24.17 http

26185 notes 15 0 518m 128m 22m S 117 1.6 2:26.61 runjava

26034 notes 15 0 758m 187m 35m S 102 2.3 2:15.53 traveler

Does anybody have any idea?

You should open a PMR for a systemdump and logs to be analyzed. This isn’t normal, so we’ll need to start there to figure out what is going on in your setup.
