I have an old Vaio laptop that has been running each major version of Notes Domino Designer client since late Notes 5. I was running 8.0.2 until the 8.5.1 release came out this month. The good reviews prompted me to make the leap. Designer 8.5 was not encouraging based on an install on a workstation at work.
I ran the installer many times, including the “Repair” option and only the Basic configuration client wold launch - no Designer. This was the proper installer because it’s the same installer file I just used to succesfully upgrade my work PC.
I compared the 2 PC folders and the trouble pup was completely missing the “framework” folder. There had been no errors or warnings and the machine’s had about 100 GB free. This is a fairly old machine (2002) with only 1 GB Ram and a P4.
I dragged over that folder from the working 8.5.1 designer PC, re-ran the installer and now I have designer 8.5.1 running on the old lappie.
This seems to be a pretty big hole in the install design - should not some routine in the installer be checking for that folder?
