A request has been made to have separate department calendars and then have a “main” corporate calendar with entries from the multiple deparment calendars.
Anyone have to embark on what seems close to impossible and troublesome (if not using built-in Notes calendaring)and a lot of development.
We developed a group calendar to manage where people are and when. It all shows at a corporate calendar. Users can create a view on the fly with a calendar for their department or other departments. in addition, you can export a weekly attendance report into Excel on the fly. We manage all out of office time with simple forms as well as approved time off such as vacations, personal days, comp days, etc. Take it a step further and it manages Travel with detailed plane itineraries and expense reporting. The purpose is single entry to gain many benefits.
You can start by cloning the mail calendar and adding key fields such as employee and department. From there I’m sure it will blossom into something similar above.
This can be done fairly easily, without too much hassle, it just depends on how sophisticated a solution is required. For example, the group calendar functionality will achieve quite a lot of this sort of thing with nil development effort.
Otherwise, collecting C&S data from other calendars and collating it in one calendar isn’t too bad, especially if this is cascaded (i.e. one “collector” grabbing individuals’ data and putting it into a dept. calendar, then “department collectors” working from the dept. calendar(s) to your organisational one).
Unfortnately, I’m not a developer but I have recruited one for this project.
I tested the group calendar functionality and although the function is great, I’ll definitely need to get something a little more sophicasted. Similar to what the Walter posted.
