I am trying to use a formula to copy the contents of a Rich Text field (an Excel spreadsheet) to another location in the same document using a formula.
Notes Help Text clearly states that you cannot write to a Rich Text field with a formula.
Is there a work around for this? I know it could probaly be done using script but I don’t have much experience with that.

Bobby,If I read your message correctly, you are trying to have two copies of the same content inside one document? Why are you trying to do that? You can do a lot with formula language, but I suggest you start learning lotusscript. There are tons of examples in the help section of design.
To find these examples, when inside designer select help, help topics then select the index, do a quick search on notesrichtextitem, open this class, then select lotusscript, at the top of this page you will see a link called: “Example”. Select example and the second example (copyitemtodocument method) does exactly what you are saying you want to do, except you will need to make sure you change the name of the new item since it’s the same document.
Good luck.

Heather,
Thanks for the response. The purpose for the same content at two places in the document is this:
The form has two sections - one is a controlled section that only managers can see and contains all the info. The other section has the same fields as the 1st one minus a few private fields. That section is public. I want the users to load one section (some containing rich text fields) and have that same info displayed in the other public section. The formulas work great for this except in the rich text fields of course.
If there is a better way to do this let me know.

Oh, well you can have a computed for display text field display a copy of a rich text field, by just using the rich text fieldname as yout formula.
Also, you could dispense with the controlled access sections, and just use hide formulas on the non-rich text fields whose display is conditional.

Andre - Thanks for your comment but this isn’t true if I understand you correctly. Rich text fields only have a type of “Edited” & “Computed”. “Computed For Display” is not an option in a Rich Text field.

As I said, a computed for display text field.

Sorry Andre but as I said it still does not work even in a text field. It makes sense that it would not work because it would be asking the application to place rich text field contents into a “text” field. I do appreciate your suggestions though.

As you can see from this screenshot, it works great for me. Maybe you are doing something wrong. Perhaps if you’d describe what you did and say what it does instead of working, that would help us find an answer.
