Why can’t I copy text from a Notes document?
I am using Notes client 7.02. I open the a Person document (names.nsf) which I cannot edit. I highlight the name of the person (to copy into my email), but cannot Copy it. The Copy is gray (although I can Copy as a document link), and Ctrl-C does not work. What gives?
Thanks,
-Jeff

Simple – you don’t have permission to copy or forward the document. That’s controlled either by an ACL entry or by the presence of a $KeepPrivate field on the document. Note that this is document-by-document for $KeepPrivate entries and database-by-database for ACL entries, so your copy/forward permissions depend on where you’re working at the time.

I guess I’m not allowed to copy from the NAB. Darn.
Where in the ACL is that setting? I can’t find it. I do see “Disable printing/forwarding/copying to clipboard” in the Form’s security tab. But nothing in the ACL windows.
Thanks,

It’s in the Permissions list on the Basics tab (along with create Documents, create private views, create shared views, and so on). The replicate/copy setting is what you’re looking for.
Note that the permission actually applies a $KeepPrivate field to documents on the fly, so you may need to run an agent to remove the field (assuming you can edit).
